Catania

The house stands beside Villa Bellini. On the far side of the park the centre begins, and from there Catania is walked.

Beyond the park

Beyond the park gate, Catania's walls are painted. Not in one neighbourhood alone: here street art turns up almost everywhere, as you walk.

Street art in Catania: a Renaissance-style female figure and a cherub, painted beside a window

It began in San Berillo, among gutted houses brought back to life through colour: not decoration, but reclamation. From there it spilled into the streets, and today you find it on a shop shutter, on a walled-up doorway, across the whole façade of a building.

There is no route to follow. Just look up while you are on your way somewhere else.
